Produce

Neversink Farm lies at the base of The Neversink River Valley. This river bottom farm land is rich and fertile Otisville Sandy Loam and perfect for growing mixed vegetables. The Neversink River flowing through the middle of the farm is a model of healthy unspoiled rivers not only in this highly protected NYC watershed but across the country.  We use gravity fed spring water to irrigate the crops which we test biannually. In these ideal conditions we grow a wide variety of organic produce.

Vegetables and Fruits

We grow and sell more than 75 types of fruits and vegetables. All of our vegetables are grown from seed here on the farm. This way we can control everything that is fed to our plants throughout their lives, and we can limit our off-farm dependencies. The seed we purchase is mostly from farmer’s cooperatives and never, with our knowledge, sourced from any Monsanto owned companies. Our seed is always non-gmo.  We raise our produce without chemicals or pesticides and practice sustainable farming methods. Planting, cultivating, and harvesting is all done by hand. Machinery is only used for primary tillage and potato harvesting. We also sell our own organic vegetable and herb transplants in the spring at our farm stand and local farmers markets.

Honey

We are very committed to keeping our bees naturally. We never use any chemicals to treat our bees, even though organic standards allow for the use of chemicals such as Terramycin. We use essential oils like wintergreen and thyme, and sometimes organic powdered sugar in our treatments. We give additional feed only when it is required for healthy bees and never during the honey flow. The feed we give them is organic evaporated cane juice or honey as opposed to corn syrup which is what is commonly fed to bees. We are also lucky to be in the part of the Catskills where there is no commercial farming so our bees do not have the likelihood of running into pesticides during their foraging. After extraction we do not boil or finely filter our honey. It takes much work to produce honey this way but we believe our honey to be of the highest quality available. Bee products in addition to honey that we sell are propolis and pollen. Honey is seasonal and we extract during the fall. We begin taking reservations for honey three weeks before extraction.

The next extract date will be mid to late September.

Eggs/Poultry

Our laying hens are all heritage breeds which are adapted to living and foraging outdoors. The
meat birds are a slow growing free ranging variety. We work hard to create the best life for the animals in our care. We have no hybrid factory chickens bred for laying or fast growth. All of our chickens have free access to pasture everyday from early spring through late fall. We continually put them on new pasture so they have fresh grass through the season. During the winter they are in a hoop house getting lots of sun. Weather permitting they are let out during winter months to run around on the snow. Additional feed is a mixture of local organic whole grains that we grind fresh on farm. The eggs produced under these conditions are the most nutritious and best tasting you could find. We are proud and eager to show off our birds, their food, and their living conditions to any visitors. We have eggs available year round. Broilers will be available beginning July 15.

Our eggs our now available at Catskill Harvest in Liberty, NY. If you have yet to visit this store, we highly recommend you do. It is a great place to find local produce.

Trout

We wild raise trout in our pond on the farm. We believe that we have the only wild raised trout in the country. They are never fed pellets which are made from GMO corn, chicken, and other things trout shouldn't be eating. Our trout are left to fend for themselves to forage for minnows and insects. This year the trout have spawned in the pond and we now hope to have a sustainable population. To maintain sustainability we limit our harvest each week to very few trout. Trout is sold out for the season.
